Apparently, I Have A Type
Online dating has taught me a few things.
Mostly, it has taught me that I apparently have a type.
Not necessarily a height, hair color, eye color type. More of a the older I get, the better I understand what makes me genuinely click with someone type.
I’ve learned, for example, that I’m probably not the girl for tattoos, smoking, heavy drinking, or a particularly enthusiastic dog dad.
I appreciate a guy who puts a little thought into how he presents himself. And, noticeably, I have some feelings about mustaches.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that common sense is wildly underrated.
Situational awareness? Turns out, very attractive.
As for what I am drawn to:
Loves Jesus.
Kind.
Smart.
Thoughtful.
A pretty smile.
Smells good.
Easy to listen to.
And someone who just seems to get it.
That last one might be the most important.
When I was younger, I probably would have described my “type” mostly in terms of chemistry and physical attraction. Now, I find myself noticing the quieter things.
How someone treats people.
Whether they pay attention.
Whether conversation feels easy.
Whether I can relax around them.
Whether their faith feels lived, not just listed.
Whether they make me laugh without needing to be the center of attention.
Maybe that’s one of the more useful things about dating: you get to learn yourself.
Not just Who do I want?
But What makes me feel at ease? What do I value? What am I actually attracted to? Who brings out a version of me that I like?
I don’t have a husband to show for all this research just yet.
But I do understand my type a little better.
And, apparently, I have a very strong opinion about mustaches.
